Questions and Questioning - 2006/09/29 21:59 In future I'm hoping that students or other teachers will make suggestions for the monthly topic. To kick off the first one however I have chosen 'Questions and Questioning'. I'll just mention a few things that have come my way and hope that some of you will resgister and tell us your views of how 'Questions and Questioning' feature in your teaching - and some of the significant moments when your understanding got deepened.

In our studies we need to find the right questions. Somewhere I have a quote that says that cuddles and the reading of stories are two of the most significantly beneficial activities that parents can do for children. I would like to add that the judicious asking of questions should be added. If the child is asking questions then the parent should wonder - both "Isn't it wonderful that...." and "I wonder why......" That is to say the parent - later the teacher - should model the behaviours s/he wants to see in the child. Specifically here as 'the questioner', the one who reflects, who both takes joy from that which is wonder-full and the one who asks the 'W' questions: "Why do we think Jack climbed the beanstalk?", "What in side him kept him going do you think?", "What would you say is the most important question we should be asking?"

Don't for get we have a section L) for asking and answering our questions/needs.
